Chapter 35

Remi

It was after seven when Jade finally messaged me to let me know she could make dinner. She suggested picking something up and eating in my office, but we had no one using the VIP room that night, so there was plenty of space for us to enjoy dinner up there. I was grinning like an idiot as I worked the bar for the first hour after the club opened. Tuesday nights were slow, so there wasn’t all that much to do. It was a long day since I’d also needed to be there for inventory that morning. I hadn’t minded my lack of time off until Jade. Now, I wished I could be at home with her.

“Hey there, sexy.”

“Just fucking great,” I muttered before turning toward Heather with a strained smile. “Can I get you a drink?”

“Can I talk you into taking a break and joining me for that drink?” Heather asked as she leaned forward to give me a better view of her boobs, which looked like they were going to fall out onto the bar.

“I have dinner plans with my girl,” I told her. “She’ll be here soon.”

Heather frowned and straightened to regard me with a quirked eyebrow. “Really?”

I let out a frustrated sigh. Heather was barely twenty-one. The first time I’d met her, she’d been a moody twelve-year-old who’d whined whenever things didn’t go her way. Under no circumstances could I have ever found her appealing. She was too young, and beneath the surface, I still saw the spoiled child who thought she could have anything she wanted.

“Yes, really,” I replied. “I’m living with someone.”

She waved off my words. “Jessica told me about that, but she says it’s nothing serious.”

“Did you want that drink or not?” I asked.

Heather looked pissed at my dismissal. “Why are you being so rude to me? I know you like the way I look. I saw you checking me out when I bent over the bar.”

“Heather,” I began in a patient tone. “You were a kid when I met you, and I’m not some dirty old pervert who’s going to forget that. I’m sure you can find someone your age.”

“There’s a lot to be said for youth,” she cooed.

I was saved from further discussion with Heather when Jade walked through the front door of the club. “If you’ll excuse me, I need to go. Sadie will take your drink order.”

I had a grin on my face as I approached Jade. When I reached her, I leaned forward and brushed my lips against hers. “I’m glad you’re here,” I said against her mouth, not sure she could hear me over the music.

When I stepped back, she smiled and held up the takeout bags. “Are you glad to see me, or is it this food?”

“The food is a bonus, but I’m mostly glad to see you,” I replied honestly. “I’m looking forward to taking you to the track tomorrow.”

“Not as much as I’m looking forward to going.” she insisted. “I cannot wait to get behind the wheel of your car.
